The Proper Instrument

Selecting a Piano Having a good instrument is crucial to the development of the pianist. If the instrument is lacking, the student's progress will be limited within the first two weeks of lessons. Three things your instrument must have before starting lessons (1) 88 keys (2) weighted keys (3) at least one pedal (damper pedal). I understand the parent’s point of view. Your child may not want to stick with lessons indefinitely and you don’t want to sink thousands into an instrument that will not be used. A digital piano or used piano is an affordable purchase option. Pianos can also be rented. Please see “resources” to find new or used / refurbished pianos, both acoustic and digital, and a piano tuner.
Acoustic Pianos	Digital Pianos
Acoustic pianos are the ideal instrument. The student will get the most enjoyment out of piano lessons and will be much more likely to stick with the instrument long term.	Digital pianos are a step down from acoustic pianos but will provide the student with the basics until you can upgrade to an acoustic.
